Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: Smart Transfer Planning

Planning a Cortina transfer means booking the vehicle early, checking luggage space and agreeing on a permitted drop-off point before paying. The 2026 Winter Games are now over, but their transport restrictions offer a useful lesson for major-event travel: a car reservation does not guarantee access to the venue. From Malpensa, allow for a substantial road journey and a separate final leg to your seat.

Start with the event, then work backwards

Malpensa to Cortina is approximately 420 km, with a baseline driving time of 5 hours 30 minutes. That estimate does not include baggage collection, a meal stop, traffic delays or the journey from the vehicle drop-off to the spectator entrance.

A flight landing on the morning of an event leaves several connections exposed to delay. Arriving the previous day gives more room for disruption. For the return, work backwards from airport check-in requirements rather than treating the baseline driving time as a promise.

Book once flights, accommodation and event tickets fit together. There is no universal booking deadline: the useful milestone is having enough confirmed information to reserve the right vehicle and route.

Price the car against the whole group

Using the supplied Malpensa–Cortina distance, Global Transfer's calculated fares are below. These are amounts per vehicle, rounded to the nearest €5, rather than per passenger.

  • E-Class, up to 3 passengers: €870.
  • V-Class, up to 7 passengers: approximately €1,040.
  • V-Class VIP, up to 6 passengers: €1,520.
  • S-Class: €1,730.
  • Vito, up to 8 passengers: €1,730.
  • Sprinter, up to 16 passengers: price on request.

The fare is the same in either direction; a return booking adds another journey. For 7 passengers, the V-Class works out at approximately €149 each one way, provided their luggage fits. That is a more useful comparison with public transport than the vehicle price alone.

Match the vehicle to bags as well as seats

Passenger capacity is not a luggage guarantee. Ski bags, large suitcases and a pushchair can change which vehicle works, even when the group fits within the advertised seat count.

Send a practical inventory before confirming:

  • Passenger total, including children.
  • Number and approximate size of suitcases.
  • Ski or snowboard bags and other bulky equipment.
  • Required child seats and any mobility needs.

Ask for confirmation that the complete load fits. A VIP model should not be assumed to carry more luggage. For a large party, compare a Sprinter quotation with splitting the group across vehicles, including the inconvenience of separate arrivals.

Agree on a legal drop-off and the final leg

Cortina used temporary Olympic traffic restrictions and a vehicle-pass system during the Games. The municipality records these in its [mobility archive](https://milanocortina2026.comune.cortinadampezzo.bl.it/en/mobility/).

For event travel, confirm the rules for the specific date, address and vehicle. Do not assume that an event ticket or an NCC booking authorises entry through every checkpoint.

Agree on a permitted drop-off, the onward walk or shuttle connection, and a return meeting point. Check whether the hotel entrance is reachable under the applicable rules. A transfer to Cortina and access to a spectator entrance are separate arrangements; the booking should make that distinction clear.

Compare public transport before confirming

For a solo traveller with light luggage, rail plus an onward bus can be cheaper. Compare the complete itinerary, including station transfers, connection waits and the final service after the event. A private vehicle becomes easier to justify when several people share the fare or carry bulky equipment.

Global Transfer includes a named sign at arrivals, 1 hour of airport waiting, water, Wi-Fi and charging. Child seats are free; specify them when booking. Confirm how delays beyond the included waiting period would be handled.

Reservations go through the website's booking page, with booking support from 08:00 to 22:00 and vehicle pickups available around the clock by arrangement. Free cancellation applies at least 24 hours before pickup. Check the pickup address, equipment list and cancellation deadline before payment.
